I’ve been so many places in my life and time. My eyebrows were an abomination… I drew some bad lines.
That’s my remix of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You” as it relates to my childish makeup application back in the day. Ever since I discovered the retractable MAC eyebrow pencil at the age of 19, I’ve considered myself a minor glam expert.
We’ve all served wack looks from following the crowd or simply out of sheer application ignorance. There was no YouTube tutorial to rely on in the ‘90s, and movies like Clueless and B.A.P.S. were style goals. So, yeah, we looked fly and silly simultaneously.
Without further ado, Reflect Beauty pays homage the best of the worst makeup trends that have come and, thankfully, gone!
Super Thin Eyebrows
Baywatch bae Pamela Anderson and even R&B singer Brandy convinced us to do this. Two words come to mind: Never again.
Goth Queen
Although the gothic look kicked in around mid ‘90s, black lip liner was a thing prior to Marliyn Manson, and we’re still trying to figure out why! If the goal was to get your first kiss, how did the Bride-of-Chucky-look help?
Blue Eyeshadow
This was one of those trends passed down from our moms and aunts that we mistakenly picked up in the ‘90s. The original Charlie’s Angels rocked it, so we should have known that parents just don’t understand.
Stripper Body Glitter
Were we that pressed to get noticed by our crush? Body glitter was a confetti disaster that got all over your clothes — and your test paper if you weren’t careful. We should have been satisfied with Love Spell by Victoria’s Secret, but no. We insisted on doing the most, only to look like someone who would give a cheap lapdance.
