My Mom Village: Beauty Tips for the Year Ahead

I asked the group chat what staples are carrying us through winter.

I’m lucky enough to do so much of life alongside six incredible moms, most of whom I’ve known since my son was just six months old (he’s now 10). Over the years, we’ve shared it all: holidays, birthdays, big life moments, late-night (late for me is after 9PM) texts, and yes, plenty of beauty tips. One of our moms is even about to finish her PhD. My “mom village” has carried me through every season, and these are some of our latest hacks as we settle into the new year.

“Light mask.  Best investment.”

I bought one because Alissa has said it is wonderful.  While it is still in the box, I swear I am going to use it before this month ends. The Shark red light mask is unbelievable!

“Wear yesterday’s mascara to sleep and sleep on your back to avoid smudging.  This will save you time the next day.”

Jess jokes about this, but her mascara is always flawless.  Jess loves Maybelline Full and Soft Mascara the most.

“Marketed to men but useful to moms, men’s rogaine.  Because women’s rogaine is half the concentration and double the price.  As you age you lose hair so this is also useful during perimenopause.”

Brittany is absolutely right. Post-baby hair loss is real, and as you get older, you notice it more and more. Caboki is a big hit with us too!

“Hyaluronic acid is your best friend – bathe in that!  Don’t be nasty – wash and replace your makeup brushes.  Silk pillowcase and heatless curls for effortless hair the next day.”

Teesha’s hair is always perfect. She is a big fan of Kitsch.

“Go makeup free!”

While this was Jenny’s tip, this is also mine.  I rarely wear makeup, just a tinted moisturizer, and my skin is happier now than ever.  The only thing on my face as I type this is Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops.

“Moisturize every day.  And sunblock!”

Tamara could not hit the nail on the head better. Her go-to moisturizers are Clinque. While we all love SuperGoop, Jenny loves the TJ Dupe.

The truth is, at the end of the day, there is no right way to do beauty or motherhood. Some days it’s old mascara and a silk pillowcase, some days it’s bare skin and SPF. What matters most is finding what works for you and having a village that cheers you on, no matter what. I’m endlessly grateful for mine.
