Country singer Mickey Guyton is known for shaking things up in the country music industry — whether with her statement-making hairstyles or undeniable powerhouse vocals. Her appearance at the 2022 CMT Music Awards Monday (April 11) was a perfect mix of both.

The singer wowed on stage with her song collaboration with soul duo Black Pumas (and gorgeous waist-length bubble ponytail). Their song “Colors,” was a powerful push for inclusivity and represented a major shift in the diversity of performances (and genres) at the annual awards show.

Guyton also gave us life on the red carpet before heading into the theatre, serving up prince vibes. Both hair looks, which we have dubbed “pearl glam,” were crafted by her go-to celebrity hairstylist Hachoo, who share how she took Guyton from glam to pop art for the night.

For her red carpet look, Hachoo said the look “was inspired by old Hollywood glam” to match her shimmering beaded and crystal gown. After washing and conditioning, she blew the hair dry using a round brush for volume paired with Flawless Curls Combing Cream and One Step Smooth Cream ($5.99) to smooth and protect hair.

The key, Hachoo said, was to “apply from roots to ends to nourish her natural texture.” From there, she curled hair in sections with a 2-inch curling iron. To achieve the soft waves, she curled hair from mid-length to ends, away from the face.

She finished off the look with a limited edition pearl hair pin from PatBO’s FW 2022 Runway Show which accented the deep side part.

The pearl hair pin was also a key accessory in Guyton’s on-stage performance look, which featured her hair pulled back into a textured power ponytail.

“We don’t have much time to go from red carpet ready to performance-ready,” shared Hachoo, but wanted to make sure Guyton wowed on stage, as well. To achieve the power ponytail, Hachoo brushed and molded Guyton’s hair back with TRESemmé Mega Control Hair Gel into a sleek high ponytail.

She then added textured hair extensions, which she sectioned into 2-inch bubbles and placed the hair pins between them for added security — and added charm.

While curly girls tend to reach for sheen when finishing hair, Hachoo recommends opting for a matte look with TRESemmé One Step Texture Mist. This, she said, “elevated the look of the texture and imparted a matte finish throughout, so that the camera was able to really capture the definition of the hair.”
