I’m a lipgloss girl but I’ve found that there aren’t many makeup brands that have nude lipgloss or lipstick options that work for my dark skin tone. My skin has rich, deep undertones and usually, for a nude gloss to work on me, I need to wear a lipliner.

Enter BARE. (BARE Period), founded by beauty entrepreneur, Ofunne Amaka. Ofunne, who is also founder of the popular makeup Instagram account, Cocoa Swatches, has seen her fair share of makeup brands who do not to cater to deeper skin tones. She wanted to change that and started BARE., a lipgloss collection that includes a variety of versatile nude shades that complement darker skin tones.

BARE. has four nude shades numbered from darkest to lightest. Tying into her Nigerian roots, Ofunne named the glosses in English and Igbo: Ofu (1), Ibuo (2), Ito (3) and Ino (4). I tried all four glosses and here are my thoughts.

The glosses went on silky-smooth and the formula felt amazing on my lips. All four glosses are buildable, going on sheer, but you can layer for a more opaque vibe.

It was great to use a nude that easily complemented my dark skin and I feel that I could have gone without using a lipliner. Also, the glosses had a sophisticated vanilla scent that I loved. After trying BARE., I would definitely recommend! They are wearable and will be in heavy rotation in my makeup bag.
