From the hair on our heads to the polish on our toes, these ten dynamic women were unquestionably instrumental in defining how we approach beauty.
Long before TikTok, Instagram or Pinterest, women of color were setting trends in every facet of beauty. From hair and makeup to skincare and nails, these bold women were taking risks and experimenting with beauty in ways that could not be ignored. Most, if not all, did this without strong support from Hollywood or major corporate backing of any kind.

Some of the women on our list were breaking beauty barriers decades ago, which is a huge feat in itself. Regardless of the time, they all were innovative, creative and fearless because they didn’t mind breaking the status quo. These trailblazers likely did not intend to become trendsetters but every single one of them has influenced how women of all backgrounds approach beauty today. We want to give them their long overdue flowers.
