Organic has been quite the buzzword for the past couple of years! From food to Instagram followers, real — or au natural — is the way to go! But did you know that organic makeup is also a trend that’s buzzing?
Oh, yes! Organic makeup is natural makeup made from essential oils, plant extracts, vitamins and minerals. The products contain no preservatives, synthetics, chemicals, parabens, or genetically modified ingredients. Many of these products are vegan and made without animal testing.
Now, keep in mind that everything isn’t good for everyone — just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s right for you. For instance, if you’re allergic to sunflowers or coconuts, you’ll want to avoid products that contain those ingredients. It’s also a good idea to stay far away from organic cosmetics containing ingredients that could cause you to breakout or become ill. Please be mindful of ingredient lists!
If you’re ready to keep it real, we did some scavenger-hunting and found cosmetic brands that are good to the Earth and your pores.
Color the World Lipsticks
This company caters to women over 40, and its lipsticks are 100% vegetable-based and free from animal testing. A percentage of proceeds from each lipstick goes to a charitable cause that is attached to a particular lipstick. At Color the World, you’ll find pretty shades with calls-to-action, like Southern Red-Conserve the Rainforest and Kisses-Homes for the Troops.
Taylor Made Cosmetics & Skincare
Atlanta-based oncologist Dr. April Spencer recognized the need for cosmetics that were suitable for patients diagnosed with cancer. In an effort to provide her clients with a little extra TLC, she created a natural cosmetics and skincare line named Taylor Made. All products are phthalate- and paraben-free. There is even a line for tweens and gentlemen!
RMS Beauty
Celebrity makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift outdid herself with this one. First of all, this line has EVERYTHING! We’re talking lipstick, concealer, highlighter — and it’s all made from raw, food-grade, organic ingredients.
Zao Cosmetics
This brand prides itself on choosing raw materials from organic farming. By selecting ingredients free of artificial fertilizers and pesticides, Zao is minimizing soil pollution and groundwater, protecting biodiversity and taking care of your beauty needs simultaneously! And, as if that weren’t enough, PETA has given the Zao brand its official nod of approval for its promise to consumers.
Beauty costs, and you will pay a pretty penny more for organic makeup than you would for the average drugstore brand. At the end of the day, most women choose organic lines because it sits well with them morally. If you’re an eco-friendly babe, we say go for the gusto and give any of the above mentioned brands a try!
Have you worn organic makeup before? What persuaded you to try it?
