Flawless Fall Makeup for Black Women – 5 Best Fall Makeup Trends for Darker Skin

By CurlyNikki Walton
Fall’s here! But for the first time in my whole entire life, I live where the seasons don’t switch up!  Instinctually, I still did, tho — from iced to hot lattes, from slides to booties, and from sun-kissed, no-makeup looks to soft, glam ones.  Autumn is all about warm, rich, earthy colors; colors that really compliment my highly melanated situation.  So I’m absolutely not missing out just because I now reside in a naturally subtropical habitat!
In the past, my makeup-shy self played it safe and steered clear of bold eyes and dark lips; pulling off Fall Trends can be … tricky. There’s a fine line between ‘warm glam’ and ‘trial run for Halloween,’ or between ‘yasssss’ and ‘yeah, no.’  But in the spirit of switching it up, I’m highlighting (and definitely rocking) the Top 5 Warm Glam Trends for Darker Skin. Below are the products to get the job done and the best ways to use them to achieve a flawless, not-at-all-spooky look this Fall!
All That Glitters
Metallic eye shadow is an absolute stunner on darker skin.  I love all the pigments, but bronze, gold, and warm reds hit different in the Fall! Try it on both your upper and lower lids for a fresh look this season.  Pro tip: Want to save yourself a trip to the store?  Mix that highlighter you over-used all summer with that earthy shadow you already have in your makeup kit, and boom: you’re on trend and on budget!
Bold, Matte Pouts
Darker complexions can slay just about any lip color, and rouge lips are always ‘in.’ But when it comes to super rich, deep reds (pushing into burgundy, and even purple), make sure the undertone is blue.  Blue-based reds look amazing on darker skin tones because 1) they make your teeth appear whiter, not dull and yellow, and 2) they better complement your undertones.  One of my absolute favorite, long-lasting matte lip stains is Hour Glass in Icon.  It stays put all day, doesn’t dry my lips out, and makes me feel … iconic!  I wear it with a bare face often, and it gives me the pop of bold color I need for all the Fall feels!

Natural-Looking Bronzer
People used to believe that bronzer wasn’t for Black girls. Thankfully, this is absolutely not true, and I argue that every one of us needs a bronzer in our arsenal — to further enhance that glow. But for this season, the glow should be natural, warming, and light-reflective, not super-shimmery and obviously fake. With that in mind, I recommend you skip the matte-finish varieties, and opt instead for soft matte ones like Fenty Beauty’s Mocha Mami Bronzer. It’s smooth, creamy, and easy to blend. The Popping, Inner Eye Situation
That perfectly placed inner eye highlight is THE way to enhance all your Fall looks and feels this year.  You can opt for an icy white or silver if you’re feeling yourself, or a warmer gold if you’re still testing the waters.  Either way, it’s intense, and incredibly eye-opening. Barely There Foundation
I’m a makeup minimalist and argue that fresh skin is always in, no matter the season. Thankfully, sheer foundations are trending hard right now, so you can finally let your radiant self shine through (while still filtering and hydrating, of course)! Clinique Even Better Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 is my current go-to; it provides the perfect, subtle palette for all these rich, bold, and fun Fall looks.
