The Search For The Perfect Deodorant

How I found my best deodorant.

Although summer is just about over, that doesn’t mean any of us will stop sweating. It may be easier to hide, but the sweat under our oversized fluffy fall sweaters is still there.

Over the years, I’ve been hunting for my ideal deodorant. Something that smells nice, stops the armpit stains and lasts all day, which, believe it or not, has been a difficult task. I don’t necessarily have sensitive underarms and wouldn’t call myself an extreme sweater, however, on a hot day, I sweat quite a bit.

I enjoy the smell of some, but they don’t help with the pit stains, or some stop the stains but smell horrible. I usually opt for a spray or roll on. For those who sweat very often and quite regularly, sprays or roll-on deodorants with a higher alcohol content are ideal, but for those with more sensitive skin, those could irritate you heavily.

I’m sharing what’s worked for me, but remember that to truly find what your armpits need is a trial and error process. I’m here to make the process more manageable in terms of what works for my mild to heavy, sweaty, and nonsensitive armpits and get you on the right track to discover your holy grail product.

Right off the bat, completely organic deodorants are out. I have tried about three brands, and although they can smell delightful, that smell never sticks, and I have to reapply up to three times a day.

I love a spray deodorant, as I’ve found they don’t leave any clumps and streaks. My go-to over the years has been the Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant Deodorant in the scent Cool Essentials. The smell is fantastic, and the formula is very lightweight. On the downside, this does not last all day as I usually apply in the morning and once later in the day. I also find it doesn’t stop pit stains whatsoever. In that case, I will always have it around as I enjoy the formula, but I kept testing my options to find something to stop the large sweat stains.

Another option I’ve sampled is Native’s Coconut, a vanilla aluminum-free deodorant in both stick and spray form. I am obsessed with the smell of this product. I use it as a body wash, too, however, I don’t find this one long-lasting. In fact, I’ve noticed the smell completely dissolves by the afternoon, which is such a shame. It’s certainly a good option for laying around the house or doing a quick errand, but I have yet to repurchase it as I am on the lookout for an extended-wear formula.

Subtly send this to a smelly friend in need 🫶🏽 My dad used to say even as a baby i had some STRONG underarms 😂 rude but necessary. I’ve tried to many products and they either work for a week and stop or they give me chemical burns. @duradry is so gentle and ridiculously effective. I tell all my fellow strong B.O friends about it cause no one wants to be smelling a mess! 10/10 recommend if stress sweat be ruining your days and you want to actually feel and smell fresh 🤍 #bestdeoderant #bodyodoursolutions #duradry #howtostopsweat #underarmodor #deoderantspray #hyperhydrosis #bodyodorremedies

With all that experimentation, it wasn’t until a non-sponsored TikTok came up on my FYP about a deodorant brand I had yet to try. I’ve seen more than one organic TikTok about this product, which drove me to purchase and try it myself. The DuraDry AM Stick is known to be a super-effective antiperspirant that stops sweat stains and keeps the arm drip to a minimum. After comparing it to the Dove spray, I can say it lives up to the hype.

For the past few days, I used Dove on one armpit and the DuraDry on the other to compare, and the DuraDry held up drastically better. My only complaint with this product is there is not a super strong smell to it, but I guess that’s what perfume is for.

DuraDry has an entire line of similar products, such as body washes and sprays, that I have yet to get my hands on but plan to soon. If you’re sick of annoying sweat stains or are an excessive sweater, I highly recommend trying it. I’m not going to get rid of my Dove spray just yet as I find it cooling on more low-key days, but anytime I have a lot going on and know I’ll be sweating uncontrollably, I’m bringing out the DuraDry.

Good luck out there on your deodorant mission. With a little patience and some experimentation, nothing is stopping you from smelling nice without the sweat!
