TikTok is a treasure trove of makeup inspiration. From coquette beauty to 90s grunge, the beauty trends span a wide range of aesthetics.
One look that started to gain popularity earlier this year and that continues to grow is the Douyin makeup aesthetic. Named after the Chinese version of TikTok, the Douyin makeup look is used to cover a type of aesthetic that could be described as “doll-like.” Not to be confused with coquette beauty, this ethereal trend can often look like it was applied with a very light touch. It makes us think of the no makeup makeup look in that it wants to appear minimalist but in reality, there are a whole lot of products being used.
Douyin Makeup places an emphasis on the eyes and uses lots of shimmery and glittery shadows. The application favors East Asian eye features, flattering hooded lids. TikToker Vivian Hoang told Allure that she loved the look so much that she was “no longer insecure about not having large, double-lidded eyes.”
